Generators
Add generated tracks to your score for practice or songwriting.
How generators work
All generators create a new track and enter preview mode. A yellow banner appears at the top of the score. You can listen to the result and then either:
- ✓ Accept - commits the track to the undo stack
- ✕ Discard or Escape - removes it with no undo entry
Generators reuse an existing track of the same name rather than stacking duplicates if you run them again.
Open the generator panel with the Gen button in the toolbar. Set a shared Root + Scale in the panel - all generators lock to this key by default.
Drone
Creates a "Drone" track with the lowest open string let-ring on every bar. Three voicing modes:
- Root only - open string on every bar
- Power chord - root + 5th
- Full triad - root + 3rd + 5th, spread across strings
Bassline
Traces the lowest note of each beat across all bars onto a new "Bass" track. Good for quickly adding a complementary bass part to a guitar score.
Arpeggiator
Generates an arpeggiated pattern in 8th or 16th notes using the current Root + Scale. Direction options:
- Up - ascending pitch
- Down - descending pitch
- Alternating - ping-pong (up then down)
Drums
Generates a percussion track using GM drum mapping. Five style presets:
- Basic - kick/snare alternating, hi-hat on 8ths
- Half-time - snare on beat 3
- Doom - slow kick on 1 and 3, sparse snare
- Blast beat - 16th-note kicks and snare
- Metal - driving 8th kicks, snare on 2 and 4
Step sequencer
A 4/8/16-step grid where each step picks a scale degree (root, 2nd, 3rd … octave, or rest). Uses the current Scale View mode and Root key. Octave offset control. Generates a "Sequence" track starting from the cursor position.
Chord Progression
Choose from 9 built-in progressions (doom, metal, blues, pop, Phrygian riff, etc.) or build your own from the diatonic chord palette. The generator stamps one chord voicing per bar from the cursor position, creating a "Chords" track in preview mode.
The separate Chord Progression Builder tool (via the ⊞ tools overlay) lets you build and preview progressions before generating.
Harmonizer
Creates a "Harmony" track with all notes from track 0 shifted by a fixed interval. Options:
- Chromatic - fixed semitone interval (m3, M3, 4th, 5th, 6th, octave)
- Diatonic - snaps harmony to the current scale/mode so the harmony stays in key
Compose All
Runs Drone + Bass + Drums in a single pass, creating three generated tracks at once. Click Comp in the toolbar or use the command palette (Ctrl+K).
Add blank track
Click the + button at the end of the track bar. A name input appears - press Enter to create an empty track with the same bar structure as the existing score.
